Alyssa Coppelman

Alyssa Coppelman is a photo editor and art researcher with 15 years of experience, primarily as Assistant Art Director of Harper’s Magazine, and Art Researcher for the Oxford American magazine, which won the National Magazine Award for general excellence in 2016. She has written for Adobe Create, WIRED Photo, Feature Shoot and Slate’s photo blog, Behold.  Alyssa has juried contests and exhibitions for the Center for Fine Art Photography, A. Smith Gallery, Critical Mass, Flash Forward, and Slideluck Austin; regularly attends portfolio reviews; and is a member of Photolucida’s Advisory Council. She provides oversight in editing, sequencing, design, and editorial aspects of portfolios and photobooks. As a visiting lecturer, she speaks to undergraduate and graduate students of photography about building a career as a working photographer.

At portfolio reviews, Coppelman is looking mostly for fine art and documentary projects, as well as conceptual and digital composite work. She can advise on editing and sequencing, as well as how to approach magazines and build a client list.
