Jennifer DeCarlo

Director, jdc Fine Art

Jennifer DeCarlo has a strong connection to the photographic field through her work as a gallerist, writer, and patron of the arts.  Jennifer earned her Master of Fine Arts from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and graduated Magna Cum Laude from Knox College.  After completing her studies, Jennifer worked as the Assistant Director at the Schneider Gallery, Chicago, and as Writer | Editor for AIPAD.

In 2011, Jennifer established jdc Fine Art, a gallery based in San Diego, CA.  Today, Jennifer’s full-time pursuit is cultivating the careers of her represented artists, and operating jdc as a Private Dealer + Project Space.  Jennifer hosts exhibitions in San Diego and contributes to happenings in Chicago.  She has lived in and feels connected to both cities.  The Gallery’s home base is San Diego, but Jennifer considers the field a more dynamic workspace than a white box, so she travels to see her artist’s major shows, exhibit or attend art fairs, collaborate on public projects, and participate in portfolio reviews.

Jennifer enjoys the review process and is able to help artists at all levels or progress points. Direct and fair, she is happy to assess resolved work, give feedback on work in progress, or help artists out of a creative-block. DeCarlo enjoys narrative, figurative work most. Any work that is content-driven is of interest to her. Landscapes and conceptual work are her least favorite work to engage.
