Lucas Maclaine Shaffer

Special Projects & Client Relations, photo-eye

Joining photo-eye in 2014 as a Gallery Associate, Lucas Maclaine Shaffer’s current responsibilities in Special Projects & Client Relations are broad. Alongside the Gallery Director, he primarily aids in producing six to eight exhibitions annually in their Santa Fe Gallery and Project Space. Lucas also oversees artist submissions to photo-eye and serves as a member the four-person review panel who selects artists for representation on The Photographer’s Showcase and Art Photo Index (API) – a vetted compendium of fine art and documentary photographers. Bimonthly, Shaffer curates Features for API promoting emerging and early-career photographers within the greater photographic community.  He received his BFA from the University of Illinois Chicago, and previously worked as a Master Class Teaching Assistant at the Maine Media Workshops and College with George Tice, Cig Harvey, and John Goodman among others. In his personal practice, Lucas explores the conflation of technology and photography as well as the affects materials have on perception.

Shaffer is particularly interested in viewing contemporary bodies of work exhibiting innovative and distinctive ways of seeing and use of photographic materials.
