Soanne Berner

Marketing Manager, MACK

Sooanne Berner coordinates press, marketing and creative partnerships for MACK. She organizes the program of events and exhibitions, and manages all online and print marketing and press. Her role at the publishing house is also editorial: she sources artists and writers with whom to collaborate, and has most recently begun working closely with artists on the concept and sequencing of books. Finally, she participates in the running of the First Book Award, a photography publishing prize open to artists who have not previously been published. Prior to working at the publishing house, Sooanne was a copywriter for Dazed Media and worked at commercial and non-profit art galleries, including Pace London, and the David Roberts Art Foundation, London. She has an M.A. in Art History [“Global Conceptualism”] from the Courtauld Institute of Art, London, in which she focussed on innovative formats in arts publishing.

Sooanne is particularly interested to see photography that is conceived for the book form; she is curious to see work that has a strong narrative thread and takes image scale and sequencing into consideration to manifest this narrative. She is interested in projects that embrace innovative formats (print/digital), and work that operates in the expanded field of photography, such as projects that combine image and text, or image and sculpture. She is also interested in work that brings together archival and contemporary photography. She will be able to provide advice from the perspective of working at MACK – a publishing house with an openly subjective approach to publishing – and also as someone who has worked at an arts/culture media outlet.
